2011 Rich River Champion, Jack Wilson
Kew Golf Club’s Quinton Howe steamed to the lead in Echuca-Moama after the third round of the 2012 Rich River Trainee Classic. With the calmer conditions providing improved scoring opportunities, Howe managed to record a score of six-under par sixty-six to take a two shot lead into the final round. Howe will be joined in the final group by home-town local and 2011 Rich River Trainee Classic Champion Jack Wilson, along with Manly Golf Club’s Richie Gallichan.
Despite feeling a surprising lack of confidence prior to his round, Howe still managed to take advantage of the ideal scoring conditions to post a bogey-free, six-birdie round. Howe remained aggressive throughout his round and regained his confidence with a birdie on the par-five, fifth hole. He then birdied five of the next twelve holes to take control of the tournament. A second year PGA Trainee from Kingswood Golf Club, Wilson also carded his best round for the tournament, a five-under par sixty-seven to remain two strokes behind Howe. Rounding out the final group for the final round is first year Trainee Richie Gallichan who continued his smooth form by recording his third round of seventy to trail Howe by four.
With the Rich River layout again presenting itself in magnificent condition and ideal golf scoring weather forecast for tomorrow, Trainees will be chasing birdies in the hope of catching the final group. But with Howe in great form and his putter running hot the question remains, will anyone be able to challenge the third-year Trainee, who appears determined to capture the Rich River Classic in his final appearance in the tournament?
