Higgins makes it two in a week
Saturday, 2 March 2013
Victorian Trainee Dylan Higgins has fired a sensational score of six under-par 66 to win the $10,000 Clark’s First National Real Estate & Drouin Community Bank Drouin Pro-Am.
Higgins, who had already won the Italian Golf Association Pro-Am at Long Island on Monday capped of his week with the one shot win.
On a day where conditions were far from easy Higgins lit up the front nine with five birdies and an eagle on his way to a six under-par total of 30.
“I’ve had a great day at Drouin, I played a bit better than I thought I would. Thank you to the club and the sponsors for giving us the opportunity to play” Higgins said at presentations.
Weather conditions again made scoring very tricky for the players with 20 to 30kph winds making every shot a stern test of golf.
Four shots behind Higgins after the morning round was defending Order of Merit winner Leighton Lyle who carded a very respectable two under-par 70.
The unique course that runs in and around a horse racing track was presented in sensational condition, a great feat in its self seeing the club only recently had to replace six green due to vandalism.
Last year’s E-Z-GO Legends Tour Order of Merit winner Kym Olsen fired a great round of five under-par 67 to finish in a tie for second place with Drouin green keeper and local Ryan Hammond.
Euan Walters has opened up a seventeen point lead over Brad Lamb in this year’s Order of Merit race after finishing alone in fourth place with a three under-par 69.
The next event on the Victorian Tour is the Phillip Island Golf Club Pro-Am on Sunday 3rd March
