Shanshan Feng became the first Chinese golfer to win a major title with victory at the Wegmans Championship on Sunday.

In scorching heat in New York, Feng carded an equally hot five-under-par 67 to win by two strokes from Japan's Mika Miyazato, American Stacy Lewis, Norway's Suzann Pettersen and South Korean Eun-Hee Ji.

The 22-year-old birdied the 17th hole at the Locust Hill Country Club to finish with the tournament's lowest score and one of only three bogey-free rounds.

Australian Karrie Webb, who was one shot off overnight leader Ji, carded a final-round even-par 72 to miss the chance to add an eighth major to her career tally.

Fellow major champion Lewis was gunning for a third win in four events but her two-over-par 70 was only good enough for equal second and four under overall.

Webb was a shot back at three-under along with American Gerina Piller and Japan's Ai Miyazato, who both shot a final-round 68.
