Sean Crowe and Peter Thomson
In trying conditions, Victorian club professional Sean Crowe today earned himself a spot in the Australian PGA Championship in December after shooting 5 under in the final round of the 2010 PGA Professional’s Championship.
Finishing two shots ahead of the rest of the field, Crowe won the national title for club based PGA Professionals, winning the lion’s share of the $60,000 prize purse up for grabs.
With PGA Life Member Peter Thomson on hand to present the trophy, Crowe who works at Eastwood Golf Club, said he was ecstatic to have clinched the championship.
“Thanks to the PGA for putting on this event and allowing us the chance to win through to the PGA Championships in Queensland,” Crowe said.
“It should be a bit of fun and I can’t wait to give it a go,” Crowe said.
“Sandhurst is a great venue and hopefully I will be back playing here again next year.”
Crowe’s third and final round of 5 under was the best round of the Championship that was played on the Sandhurst Championship course for the first two days and the North Course for the final day.
Speaking at the event Peter Thomson reminisced about the history of the prestigious tournament, that for the last two years has been played on a course that he himself designed.
“The PGA Professional Championship is an important event in the life of the PGA. It was in my day, it is now, and I’m sure it will continue to be so in the future.”
“A lot of respect is shown to the winner who can beat such an outstanding field of competitors.”
