Cooke claims Italian pro-am

The South Australian Italian Golf Club Junior Pro-Am was held today at the magnificent Grange Golf Club with over 80 junior golfers from all over the state joining the professionals for this unique event.
The Italian Golf Club which also held their $25,000 Pro-Am at the same venue last Friday, put on another terrific event for the junior golfers of the state.
The event which is the only one of its kind is a great promotion of the game of golf with the juniors learning from some of the professionals before play and then going out and participating alongside them.
Jason Norris, Steve Jones, Paul Williamson and Kurt Carlson put up their hand to conduct the pre event clinic/demonstration with the junior golfers being entertained with some great shots while learning how the players go about hitting the wide variety of shots required when competing.
The recent run of perfect conditions for golf continued for another day and a number of players again took full advantage with 40 percent of the field shooting par or better.
Seven players broke 70 with Kurt Carlson, Clint Rice, Tony Carolan, Sven Puymbroeck and Max McCardle all posting 69 in a tie for third place.
Craig Davis was outright second with a fine 68 but no one finished close to the runaway winner and current SA Order of Merit leader Peter Cooke who shot an incredible 64 that included a blemish free card with eight birdies and ten pars.
“It all went really well today and it was a great feeling to shoot such a low score," said Cooke.
"I really enjoyed playing with the juniors and the South Australian Italian Golf Club should be congratulated on such a great concept and for their part in developing junior golf and supporting the PGA.”
The next event on the Southern Tour South Australian swing is the Highercombe Golf Club Pro-Am on Tuesday 17th of April.
