PGA Centenary - Trivia Quiz

Over the last 100 years the PGA and its passionate Members have touched millions of people worldwide in their quest to grow the game of golf. On this our birthday, we celebrate our success!

“Congratulations to the PGA of Australia on reaching its first century! Over the years, I have met many wonderful people through the PGA and some of my closest mates are members of the Association. I congratulate the whole organisation and everyone that it has represented over the past 100 years for making such an outstanding contribution to golf in Australia. This contribution speaks for itself but it has also played a significant role in the broader sports, leisure and corporate landscape of our country. Here’s to a double ton!” Ricky Ponting

“Congratulations on 100 years... unfortunately that number ‘100’ reminds me of a bad day or two in miserable stroke rounds...but not such a bad number for the PGA when it is your birthday. I so admire your members….you all make me strive (and struggle) to be a better golfer! Now at 100, you have inspired millions of Australians to play a great sport and play it well... Keep driving PGA!” Kerri-Anne Kennerley

“Congrats to the PGA of Australia for reaching 100. Although, considering we love golf, 100 is not really a number worth celebrating. I would have much preferred to send a congratulatory message for a 70 (two under the card). Well done all the same.” Andy Lee

"Golf is a game that is not only challenging but also rewarding. The challenge to beat your own best score , the reward is way to much to explain to anyone who has never played golf. Try it and you will find out what I mean. The PGA has helped the game grow in this country and not only introduced thousands and thousands of young people ( and old like me ) to the game but it has helped build the love of the game in many young Australians who have gone on to be world beaters . Thank you to the PGA of Australia on behalf of all Australians for helping give us so many champions to be proud of and to inspire us to get out and play the hardest most rewarding game ever. " Jimmy Barnes

“Congratulations to the PGA reaching 100 years... such a great game that I have been a part of for many years. It is a great honour to have met and call friends some of their outstanding members, seeing this sport create many champions, I look forward to the fantastic Summer of Golf ahead.” Shane Warne

“On behalf of the management and members of Australian Ladies Professional Golf, we offer our sincere congratulations to the PGA of Australia on reaching its Centenary year. Not many sporting organisations in this country can boast such longevity, continuity, growth and success. Many of our ALPG members have benefited from the education programs and opportunities provided by the PGA of Australia and we continue to enjoy a great industry relationship in our efforts to deliver increased promotion of the sport and ongoing benefits for our respective memberships. We wish the PGA of Australia a memorable year and thank them for their contribution to the sport and the industry over the past 100 years.” Warren Sevil - CEO Australian Ladies Professional Golf

“It is with a great sense of privilege that as Chief Executive of The Professional Golfers’ Association I offer my congratulations to the PGA of Australia on achieving its Centenary. When in 1901 British professionals lead by Braid, Vardon and Taylor formed The Professional Golfers’ Association I wonder if they could have visualised the development of the game across the world and the influence of the PGA’s in leading the game to the high standards that we see today. PGA Members are now at the leading edge of all aspects of the game. As the PGA of Australia and its Members enters into its second century it can do so with confidence knowing that as golf now spreads to new territories across the world the PGA Member will be at the forefront of the game. In conclusion please accept my congratulations on the success of your first hundred years and all good wishes for the second hundred.” Sandy Jones - Chief Executive Officer PGA of UK & Ireland

“On behalf of the 27,000 men and women Professionals of the PGA of America, we congratulate the PGA of Australia on the grand occasion of your Centenary. For 100 years your organisation has served the game well by promoting the sport and elevating the vocation of the golf professional. Your membership has left an indelible mark on the game and business of golf that truly spans the test of time. Past PGA of Australia President Peter Thomson captured a total of five Open Championships and won our 1984 Senior PGA Championship here in Palm Beach Gardens. Two-time major and World Number One Champion Greg Norman has become ambassador for the game, while developing a global golf business empire that revolutionised course design and apparell. As well, 1991 Open Champion Ian Baker-Finch played in our first televised Grand Slam of Golf and provides expert analysis and commentary on CBS Sports. The PGA of America proudly calls your Australian PGA Tour Chairman Wayne Grady our 1990 PGA Champion where he bested a strong field at Shoal Creek Golf Club in Birmingham, Alabama. Each of these men has spoken proudly of the support they recieved from their PGA and fellow Australian Professionals. Today we salute your collective accomplishments. Here's three cheers for a century very well done!” Joe Steranka - Chief Executive Officer PGA of America

Congratulations to ALL PGA Staff on the organisation of a fantastic Centenary Celebration at Royal Sydney G.C. As an Achievement Award recipient I was truly humbled by this acknowledgement from my peers. To even be mentioned on the same evening as such great members as Kel Nagle and many others makes me a very proud PGA Member. I regard myself to be a very lucky man to be able to count so many of my peers and staff members as true friends.May our PGA continue to successfully promote this great game into the future.

On behalf of J Victor East and Arthur W East, I feel extremely honored to have a great uncle and grandfather as founding members. These two men spent the whole of their lives to golf. Victor designing clubs for the likes of Bobby Jones, plus was vice president to Wilson Sporting Goods and as mentor to Sam Snead. Arthur for his early professional days in America, his return to Australia and being the pro at the Lakes Golf Club for16 years, for setting up East Bros. golf manufacturing and of course his days as a golf course architect on courses that were aimed at the every day golf player. Thank you
