Australia's Stuart Appleby is just two shots from the lead heading into the final round of the Travelers Championship.

Appleby is tied for third after he registered four birdies in his three-under par round of 67 to trail England's Brian Davis and American Roland Thatcher in the lead.

Davis birdied six of his first nine holes to card a six-under 64, while Thatcher registered a 65 in Connecticut to surge up the leaderboard.

Appleby shares third with Americans James Driscoll (66) and John Rollins (65), while defending champion Fredrik Jacobson is among a group of players a further shot adrift.

Jacobson recorded three bogeys and a double bogey in his even-par 70 performance to drop down to sixth alongside Americans Charley Hoffman (67), Matt Kuchar (66) and Will Claxton (69), Ireland's Padraig Harrington (65) and South Africa's Tim Clark (66).

Bubba Watson, the 2012 US Masters winner, shares 12th spot following an impressive round of five-under 65, which included seven birdies and Webb Simpson (68), who recently claimed the US Open title, trails Watson by one-stroke.

Australians Aaron Baddeley (69), Nathan Green (70) and Marc Leishman (70) are all tied for 20th spot, Greg Chalmers (69) is equal for 28th, while Gavin Coles (70) sits further back in 57th.
