A new era for Australian golf
Monday, 11 April 2011
In what was an amazing finish to the 2011 Masters, Jason Day, Adam Scott and Geoff Ogilvy had thousands of sports fans glued to their televisions hoping that the Aussie hoodoo at August was finally about to be broken.
For years memories of Greg Norman’s nine top-six finishes at Augusta has left many wondering if a win in the US Masters was beyond our Australian pros.
But following a stellar performance by three of Australia’s most promising talents today’s result really begs the question - Are we finally on the verge of a post-Shark era for golf?
While Jason Day, Adam Scott and Geoff Ogilvy have all been on the cusp of greatness for the last few years, to date Geoff has captured the only Major, the 2006 US Open.
The next Major, the 2011 US Open, now lurks only a matter of two months away.
Will the trio go on with today’s result? Are we staring down the barrel of a fresh new era for Australian golf?
