The Holden Scramble season has started in extreme circumstances after the first event at Boyne Island Tannum Sands Golf Club was postponed due to a cyclone on Queensland’s Central Coast. The event was set to launch the season on 21st March, however the arrival of Cyclone Ului meant even the most avid scramblers had to stay inside.
In conjunction with Anderson’s Auto City, Servicing Professional, Bill Webb, was expecting over 100 Holden Scramblers to compete for a spot in the regional finals and get their hands on the new Callaway prize packs but they had to be turned away due to the torrential downpour. They won’t have to wait too long however, as the next event in that area will be another Webb and Anderson’s Auto City event at Miriam Vale Golf club on April 18.
Webb, also Head Professional at Calliope Golf Club has been running Holden Scrambles for over a decade at both Calliope and Miriam Vale Golf Clubs and has formed a strong relationship with his local Holden dealer, Anderson’s Auto City Gladstone, over this time.
Anderson’s Auto City is a family business with long ties to the local community and has been sponsoring the Holden Scramble at Gladstone, Calliope and Miriam Vale Golf Clubs since the event was first introduced to the area. David Loane, Holden Sales Manager, said the company was excited about taking the Scramble to Boyne Island, but not only for commercial reasons.
“This event holds a special place for the dealership with family connections and local support keeping the Holden Scramble prominent in the community,” said Loane. “The mother of the two Dealer Principals, Les and Brad Anderson, is a member at Boyne Island-Tannum Sands, so it’s always wonderful to support them and give back to family ties.”
As Queensland puts a slight delay to the beginning of their Holden Scramble season, scramblers in other states are getting ready to tee it up again in 2010. New South Wales launched their Holden Scramble season with the Women’s event at Northbridge Golf Club, in Sydney followed by the open event at Cooma Golf Club, both held last month. South Australia was the next state to get in early with Mt Osmand Golf Club hosting their Holden Scramble on the last Sunday of March.
Western Australia and Victoria launched their Holden Scramble seasons this month with Binningup Golf Club near Bunbury starting the ball rolling for the West, and Timboon Golf Club setting the standard for the southern states with their event in later this month.
With over 300 events already confirmed, the 2010 Holden Scramble season is set to be stronger than ever. To enter your team, visit the Holden Scramble website, www.holdenscramble.com to find your nearest Holden Scramble.
