With the Holden Scramble local event season now well underway, the Regional Final venues for 2012 have been annouced, with some exciting new courses awaiting lucky qualifiers.
Sea Temple Golf and Country Club, located on the spectacular Port Douglas peninsular, is one such venue that is certain to bring a new challenge come the business end of the Holden Scramble season. Also new to the finals series is Newcastle Golf Club (NSW), consistently rated as one of Australia’s best regional golf courses. Also in New South Wales, the Graham Marsh designed Twin Creeks Golf and Country Club will likewise provide a new challenge for golfers of all ability levels.
In Victoria, Latrobe Golf Club and Cobram-Barooga Golf Club round out the new additions for 2012. Surrounded on two sides by the Yarra River, Latrobe will offer plenty of water to appreciate (and avoid), while up on the New South Wales / Victorian boarder the majestic redgum and pine tree framed fairways at Cobram-Barooga Golf Club will present their own unique challenge.
All together, 22 golf courses across Australia will host the mixed and Women’s Regional Finals with some old favourites also back on the list. Bonville Golf Resort is one such ‘regular,’ the multi-award winning Coffs Coast course back for its 21st Regional Final. Involved since the inaugural Scramble season in 1992, Bonville is the longest running Regional Final venue.
“The Holden Scramble Regional Finals provide a great opportunity for teams to enjoy some quality golf courses they may not have otherwise had the opportunity to play,” said Brian Thorburn, CEO of the PGA of Australia.
“Holden Scramble teams travel from all parts of Australia to take part in the Regional Finals, some driving for up to 8 hours just to be involved. With a trip to the Championship Final up for grabs, there is plenty on the line for the participants.”
In total approximately 2,500 participants from 600 teams will make their way through to the Holden Scramble Regional Finals where they will be joined by a fifth competitor in their local PGA Professional.
The Holden Scramble Regional Finals will be played between September 30 and October 29, 2012. To secure a spot in the field, Holden Scramblers must first win their way through one of over 350 local qualifying events, currently underway around Australia.
